Making art for fun

Hi everyone!
Today I wanted to talk about something that I think is really important — and that’s making art just for the pure joy of it.

Somewhere along the way, a lot of us — myself included — start to forget that art doesn’t always need to have a deeper purpose beyond simply making us happy.
We get so caught up in thinking our paintings need to be perfect, sellable, or Instagram-worthy.
But the truth is — you don’t need a reason to create. You don’t need a perfect idea or a big project to begin. You can just play.

When was the last time you created something just because it made you happy?

One of the things I love most about making art for fun is that there’s no such thing as a mistake.
When we let go of the pressure, we give ourselves permission to experiment. And I think watercolors are perfect for that — because you can’t control every brushstroke or every drop of water.
It’s so different from painting with expectations.
If the painting ends up a little wonky or the colors blend unexpectedly — that’s part of the charm.
Watercolors have this wonderful way of surprising you.

And that’s what I want to encourage in all of you: embrace the uncertainty.
Let your art be a conversation between you and your materials.
Sometimes the paint will do something unexpected, and instead of fighting it or trying to fix it, just go with it. Let it be fun.

We’re often so hard on ourselves as artists.
We compare our work to others. We stress about technique.
But we need to make space for playful, pressure-free art.
A few colors, some loose brushstrokes, and a little curiosity — that’s all you need.

Not every piece has to be finished. Not every sketch needs to become a product.
Sometimes, art is just about how it makes you feel in the moment.
And honestly… that’s enough.
You’re allowed to make messy, joyful, just-for-you art.
And remember: the most important audience for your art is you.

I’d love to hear your thoughts — feel free to comment below or connect with me on Instagram.

Thanks for reading, and happy painting!

Love,
Maja 🌸
